Sample journey
A first introduction to Sri Lanka: ancient sites, hill country and the south coast in one flowing route.
Illustrative imageThis is an illustrative sample, not a fixed package. We adjust it to your dates, pace and interests.
If this is your first visit, this sample journey ties together some of the island's best-loved regions: the ancient sites of the cultural heartland, the cooler hill country with its tea estates and scenic railway, and the beaches of the south.
We shape the route, the pace and the places to stay around your dates and what matters most to you, so it never feels like a fixed package.
A sample order of stops and how long people often stay. We set the real nights with you.
Often 3 nights
See the rock fortress and the nearby ancient cities and cave temples at the quieter hours of the day.
A half-day transfer from Sigiriya and the cultural heartland
Often 2 nights
A lakeside hill city with a sacred temple, and the gateway to the hill country.
A half-day transfer from Kandy
Often 3 nights
Tea estates, cooler air and the scenic railway, with time for walks.
A half-day transfer from Hill country
Often 3 to 4 nights
End by the sea, where the pace slows after the longer road days.
Road legs are described, not timed. Exact times depend on the road and the day, and we confirm them when we plan your trip.
One way this journey could unfold over 10 days. It is a concept, not a confirmed programme: the real order, nights and activities are set with you and depend on availability.

A half-day transfer from the hills down to the sea. The rest of the day is yours.
Day 10 · South coast
A last morning by the sea, then the transfer towards the airport.
Rain follows different parts of the island at different times of year, so for some months we may suggest a different order or a different mix of regions. Tell us when you plan to travel and we will say what we would change.
Tell us what you would change: add a beach stop, slow the pace, swap a safari for a train ride. We will shape a version for you.
Each fact comes with its source and the date we last checked it. Rules and conditions change, so please confirm them before you travel.

Sri Lanka has two monsoons. The south-west monsoon (May to September) brings most of its rain to the south-west and the hill country; the north-east monsoon (December to February) rains mainly on the eastern half of the island. In the months between, October to November and March to April, showers can fall anywhere. Conditions vary from year to year.
