Sample journey

Slow Wellness Sri Lanka

Two calm bases, a lakeside hill city and the south coast, with little travelling and time to rest.

Illustrative image

This is an illustrative sample, not a fixed package. We adjust it to your dates, pace and interests.

This sample journey is built around rest. It uses two bases and keeps the road time low, so most days begin without a plan and end without a hurry.

Anything on offer, such as a massage, yoga or a quiet walk, is arranged only with providers we have confirmed, and it is for relaxation, not medical care. We shape the days around you.

Highlights

  • Few transfers and long, unhurried days
  • A lakeside hill city for the first half, cool and quiet in the mornings
  • A calm stretch of the south coast to finish, with the sea close by
  • Relaxing activities arranged only with providers we have confirmed

How the route flows

A sample order of stops and how long people often stay. We set the real nights with you.

  1. Kandy area

    Often 3 nights

A hill city beside a lake, cooler than the coast, with gentle walks and quiet evenings and little need to go anywhere.

  2. A long travel day from Kandy area

    South coast near Galle

    Often 3 nights

A calm stretch of coast to finish: the sea close by, a historic fort town within reach and the days kept open.

Road legs are described, not timed. Exact times depend on the road and the day, and we confirm them when we plan your trip.

A sample day by day

One way this journey could unfold over 6 days. It is a concept, not a confirmed programme: the real order, nights and activities are set with you and depend on availability.

  1. Day 1 · Kandy area

    Arrival and rest

Land, meet your driver and travel to the hill city by the lake. An easy first evening and an early night.

  2. Day 2 · Kandy area

A slow day by the lake

A gentle walk by the lake in the cool of the morning, and an unplanned afternoon, with relaxing options if you want them.

  3. Day 3 · Kandy area

    Temple and quiet streets

The sacred temple at a quieter hour, then time to wander or rest. Nothing is fixed, and everything is optional.

  4. Day 4 · South coast near Galle

    Down to the coast

A longer travel day to the south coast, with stops along the way, ending by the sea at an unhurried pace.

  5. Day 5 · South coast near Galle

    The sea and the fort

Time by the sea in the morning and a slow visit to the old fort town when the heat eases.

  6. Day 6 · South coast near Galle

    A last slow day

A free day and then the transfer for your flight home. We keep the last hours calm.

Season and conditions

The south-west monsoon, from May to September, brings most of its rain to the south-west and the hill country, so both bases can be wet in those months. In the months between, showers can fall anywhere. We choose your dates and plan the days around the weather.

Make it yours

Tell us what you would change: add a beach stop, slow the pace, swap a safari for a train ride. We will shape a version for you.

How we can adapt it

  • One base only, for the slowest version of the journey
  • More gentle walking, or none at all
  • Relaxing activities arranged with confirmed providers, or none
  • A longer stay on the coast, or a hill-country extension

Travel responsibly

  • This is rest and relaxation, not medical care: please talk to your doctor about any health condition before you travel, and tell us what we should know
  • Choose local providers and local meals, so the visit supports the people who live here
  • Take your litter back and keep to paths and quiet places

Practical facts

Each fact comes with its source and the date we last checked it. Rules and conditions change, so please confirm them before you travel.

  • Sri Lanka has two monsoons. The south-west monsoon (May to September) brings most of its rain to the south-west and the hill country; the north-east monsoon (December to February) rains mainly on the eastern half of the island. In the months between, October to November and March to April, showers can fall anywhere. Conditions vary from year to year.

  • Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhala kings, whose patronage let the Sinhala culture flourish for more than 2,500 years until the British occupation in 1815. It is the site of the Temple of the Tooth Relic, a famous pilgrimage place, and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988.
